3:30 - Understanding California’s Newly Enacted Statewide Rent Control Bill: How Does It Impact Our Industry?
California recently passed one of the strongest, most extreme “tenant protection” bills in the country. It is estimated the bill will impact about 4.6 million households statewide. Although referred to as a “rent control” bill, it not only limits rent increases, it imposes and requires “just cause” grounds for eviction, as well as relocation payments.

6:00 - Economic Update with Tyler Laferriere
Mr. Laferriere is an Economist at the Institute for Applied Economics at LAEDC. His work portfolio at IAE includes data management and analysis; model building and forecasting; and economic consulting. His research focuses include data management, economic forecasting, economic policy studies, foreign direct investment and trade, and labor and occupational research. He joined LAEDC in December of 2017. Before joining LAEDC, Mr. Laferriere was a graduate student at Washington State University pursing joint master’s degrees in applied economics and statistics. His graduate education also included internships with the Federal Reserve Board and USDA Economic Research Service in Washington, D.C. In addition to his role at the LAEDC, Mr. Laferriere is also the vice president of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE).
